Welcome to WTF!
Beyond the attempt at a witty title, this blog is dedicated to my temporary insanity: college football. I began writing about college football relentless on a completely unrelated online forum, and there were a few suggestions that I have the ability to write at a larger level. Since I’m happy with my day job, I figured I’d start adapting my writing to a regular blog –that way, just maybe, a few people might read it.
Full disclosure, I am an alumnus of two D-IA schools: The University of Southern California (Trojans of the Pac 10) and the University of Minnesota (Golden Gophers of the Big 10). I shall do my damnest to keep my personal feelings from shading things too much. For example: at the outset of the 2007 season, I believe LSU is a solid candidate for finishing the season in the BCS title game. I think Notre Dame is a strong program (though probably not as strong this season) with great tradition, and UCLA is really good at a lot of sports and average-to-great at football (their historic record speaks for itself). Since Minnesota was my grad school, I can say any “passionate bias” will not be a problem.
Despite the NCAA’s rather lame decision to rename the Division I subdivisions as the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS, former D-IA) and Football Championship Subdivision (former D-IAA), I’ll likely be sticking to the old terminology.
So there’s my first post, nothing too great but I’ll try to bring in what I hope will be some interesting analysis of the season as it progresses.
